PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR PARENTS AND KIDS!
Parenting for Resilience Workshop Series:
Beyond "Because I Said So!"
Sometimes we hear ourselves saying words to our kids that we heard as children and swore we would never repeat. It can feel discouraging, because we want to be the perfect parent. (Hate to break it to you, but there is no such thing.) In this mini-workshop of 1-1.5 hours, participants will learn a bit about why these phrases pack such an emotional punch for us, and learn some simple self-regulating techniques to bring us into the moment and back out of the stories we believed as children.
From the well-regulated, adult egoic mind, we can make more intentional choices about how we talk with our kids. We can also learn use this self-regulation to help our kids through co-regulation. This workshop is appropriate for parents of all ages of kids.

Parenting for Resilience Workshop Series:
Raising Resilient Kids in an Era of Bubble-Wrap Parenting
Most parents today find themselves completely exhausted by all that they think is expected of them by society, other parents, and their own kids. It’s as if somewhere along the line, we received a memo that said, “Protect your child at all costs. Never let them feel uncomfortable, sad, or bored. Fix everything. Their ultimate happiness depends upon you.”
With such inflated expectations, it’s no wonder so many parents feel completely overwhelmed!
In her presentation “Raising Resilient Kids in an Era of Bubble-Wrap Parenting,” Stacey Leigh helps parents examine how they can let go of hyper-parenting and embrace a parenting style that builds resilience.
Resilient kids, according to social worker and psychotherapist Lynn Lyons, can step into an unfamiliar situation and “have a sense they can figure out what they need to do and can handle what is thrown at them with a sense of confidence.”
This workshop is suitable for parents with children of all ages and abilities. Parents will leave the workshop with a toolbox they can put into immediate use to help their kids develop resilience. As the kids take on greater responsibility for themselves, they gain confidence, pride, and self-esteem; parents find that they can relax and enjoy family life more. They even find greater fun and joy!
